Little Stars Daycare and Preschool ("Little Stars", "we", "us") runs littlestarscalgary.com. This policy explains what personal information we collect through this website, why we collect it, who we share it with and the choices you have. It applies to the website and to the emails, calls and texts that follow from it. Enrolled families also receive our parent handbook, which covers information we keep while caring for your child.
The short version
- We only use what you send us to answer you, arrange tours and handle enrolment.
- We never sell your information, and we never send names, emails, phone numbers or anything about your child to Google, Meta or any ad platform.
- Advertising and analytics cookies stay off unless you turn them on. You can change your mind at any time with “Cookie settings” at the bottom of every page.
- We only call, text or email you about your own enquiry. Tell us to stop and we will.
- You can ask to see, correct or delete your information by emailing info@littlestarscalgary.com.
The laws we follow
We are based in Alberta and follow the Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA) of Alberta and, where it applies, the federal Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA). Our emails follow Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL). Our phone calls and texts follow the CRTC Unsolicited Telecommunications Rules, including the National Do Not Call List. We apply the opt-in consent standard of Quebec's Law 25 to tracking cookies for every visitor, wherever they live.
What we collect
Information you give us
- Your contact details: name, email, phone number and, on registration forms, your home address, and details for a second parent or guardian.
- Your child's details: name, date of birth, preferred start date, program and schedule, languages spoken at home and anything else you choose to tell us.
- Health and safety details (registration only): Alberta Health Care number, family physician, allergies, dietary needs, medical concerns, medication and immunization status, and emergency contacts with pick-up permission. Alberta child care licensing rules require us to collect this before a child can attend. We treat it as sensitive: it is used only to care for your child safely and is seen only by the centre director and staff who need it.
- How you heard about us and the messages you send.
If you give us information about another person, such as a second parent or an emergency contact, please make sure they are comfortable with you sharing it.
Information collected automatically
- Basic visit statistics from Vercel Web Analytics: the page viewed, the referring website, country, browser and device type. It uses no cookies, doesn't identify you and doesn't follow you to other websites.
- Security logs from our host, such as IP address and time of request. We use these to block spam and attacks, and they are kept for a short time.
- Analytics and advertising cookies, only if you agree. See Cookies and ads.
The question helper on our site runs entirely in your browser. What you type there is not sent to us or to anyone else, and it is forgotten when you close the tab.
Children's privacy
Our website is meant for parents and guardians. Information about children comes from their parents or guardians, never from the children themselves. Children should not use our forms. We do not target ads at children, and children's information is never used for advertising or shared with ad platforms. Photos of children appear on this site only with written permission from a parent or guardian. Email us if you would like a photo removed and we will take it down promptly.
How we use your information
- To answer your questions, book and confirm tours, and follow up on your enquiry.
- To process registration and waitlist requests and to prepare for your child's care.
- To meet our legal obligations, including Alberta early learning and child care licensing requirements.
- To keep the website secure and to stop spam.
- With your consent, to understand which pages are useful and which ads bring families to us.
We only use your information for these purposes, or for another purpose if you agree or the law requires or allows it.
Your consent
When you send a form, you agree that we may use your information to respond and to deal with your request, including contacting you by email, phone or text about it. Advertising consent is separate and always optional: ad cookies are off until you switch them on. You can withdraw consent at any time by emailing info@littlestarscalgary.com. If withdrawing affects a service, such as a registration in progress, we will explain what that means.
Email, phone and text messages
Email (CASL)
- After you contact us, we email you about your enquiry. CASL treats this as implied consent, which lasts for 6 months after your enquiry, or for 2 years after you were last a client family.
- We only send newsletters and promotional emails to people who have expressly agreed to receive them.
- Every email identifies Little Stars, includes our contact details and, where it is promotional, has a working unsubscribe link. Unsubscribe requests take effect right away and always within 10 business days, as the law requires.
- We keep a record of when and how each person agreed, so we can prove consent.
Phone calls and texts (CRTC rules and the National Do Not Call List)
- We only call or text people who have contacted us, families who are enrolled or on our waitlist, and job applicants, and only about their request. We do not cold-call.
- We never use automated dialers, pre-recorded messages or bulk text services to contact you.
- We do not make promotional calls to numbers on the National Do Not Call List unless the law allows it, for example within 6 months of your enquiry or when you have given us express consent.
- We keep an internal do-not-call list. If you ask us to stop calling or texting, by phone, email or reply, we add your number within 14 days and keep it on our list for at least 3 years.
- Calls are made during reasonable hours: 9 am to 9:30 pm on weekdays and 10 am to 6 pm on weekends.
Cookies and ads
We advertise on Google (Search, Maps, YouTube and partner sites) and on Meta (Facebook and Instagram). If you agree, these services place cookies or similar technology so we can measure which ads lead to tour requests and show our ads to people who have visited our site. Until you choose "Accept all" or switch on a category, none of their scripts load. We use Google Consent Mode with every setting defaulted to "denied", and we turn off Meta's automatic collection of page details. If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, we treat it as "Reject all".

Who we share it with
We do not sell, rent or trade personal information. We share it only with the service providers below, who act for us under contracts that require them to protect it and use it only to provide their service, or when the law requires it (for example with Alberta child care licensing officials or in response to a court order).
| Provider | What they do for us | Where data is stored |
|---|---|---|
| Vercel Inc. | Website hosting, security and cookieless visit statistics | United States |
| Brevo (Sendinblue SAS) | Sending form emails | France (European Union) |
| Our business email provider | Receiving and replying to your messages | Canada or United States |
| Google LLC | Maps on our site; with your consent, Google Analytics and Google Ads measurement | United States |
| Meta Platforms Inc. | With your consent, measuring and showing our Facebook and Instagram ads | United States |
Service providers outside Canada
Some of our service providers store or process information in the United States or the European Union, as shown above. When that happens, the information is subject to the laws of that country and may be accessed by its courts, law enforcement or national security authorities. If you have questions about how our providers outside Canada collect, use, disclose or store personal information for us, contact our Privacy Officer using the details below.
How long we keep it
- Enquiries and tour requests that don't lead to enrolment: up to 2 years, then deleted.
- Registration and enrolment records: for as long as your child attends, then for as long as Alberta child care licensing and tax rules require.
- Internal do-not-call list: at least 3 years.
- Analytics data: Google Analytics is set to keep data for 14 months.
How we protect it
Our site uses HTTPS everywhere, with HSTS and a strict Content Security Policy that blocks scripts from unapproved sources. Forms are spam-filtered and rate-limited, and emails travel over encrypted connections. Only staff who need your information can see it. No method of sending information over the internet is completely secure, so for sensitive details such as health information we suggest using our forms or calling us rather than regular email.
If something goes wrong
If a privacy breach creates a real risk of significant harm, we will notify the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Alberta and the people affected without unreasonable delay, and take steps to limit the harm. We keep a record of every breach as the law requires.
Your rights
- Ask what personal information we hold about you and how we have used it.
- Ask us to correct anything that is inaccurate.
- Withdraw consent, unsubscribe or join our internal do-not-call list.
- Ask us to delete information we no longer need, unless the law requires us to keep it.
We respond within 45 days, as PIPA requires. We may need to confirm your identity first. There is no charge for a simple request.
If you aren't satisfied with our answer, you can complain to:
- Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Alberta, 1-888-878-4044
- Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada, 1-800-282-1376
- Spam: the Spam Reporting Centre; unwanted calls: the National Do Not Call List
Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle personal information, we will update this page and the date at the top. If a change is significant, we will ask for your consent again where the law requires it.
